The Queer Cinema Institute supports creators of LGBTQ+ film through the annual Barbara Hammer Film Awards, awarding queer student filmmakers a $1000 fellowship towards completion of an LGBTQ-themed film. The inaugural Barbara Hammer Film Fellowship was awarded to John-Edward Serafica for his short film "Nom de Plume". Awarded during the screening of “Welcome to This House” by visiting legendary lesbian filmmaker, visual artist, and SF State alum, Barbra Hammer.
